We were truly excited about launching our inaugural season and creating another opportunity for girls to play.

 

Over the past week, we’ve had to take a step back and look closely at the situation with the ORGHL. This league we had planned to join no longer appears likely to move forward with enough teams to support a strong, competitive season. As much as this is disappointing, we don’t feel it would be right to move ahead with tryouts and commit players to a team without knowing there will be a full schedule and meaningful competition.

 

We did explore a backup option by applying to the OWHA, which would allow us to compete in an established division alongside teams like the Twisters and Orangeville. While this is a promising path, we’ve been advised that a decision won’t come for a few weeks. That uncertainty makes it difficult for families to plan, and we don’t want to put your players in a position where they might miss other opportunities while waiting on a “maybe.”

 

With that in mind, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the Emeralds tryouts for the 2026/27 season.

 

We will continue working toward OWHA approval with the goal of launching the Emeralds for the 2027/28 season in a stable and competitive league. That way, when we do open tryouts again, we can offer a program you can commit to with confidence.

 

In the meantime, you have a couple of options:

 

☘️ We would be happy to welcome your girls to tryout for our co-ed teams with the Erin Shamrocks

☘️ We fully support you in pursuing tryouts with other associations for this season.

 

We know this is not the news you or we were hoping for, and we’re very sorry for the change in plans. We truly appreciate your interest and support, and we hope to see many of you again once the Emeralds are up and running.
